La Empieza de Nuestra Primera Excursión - León

Today we left for our first excursion! This week we're taking on northern Spain - and we started in León! We got on the bus after our class at about 1:00, and we drove for about an hour until we got to this beautiful castle. I don't remember where it was, but it was really cool. It wasn't regulated at all, and it was a total defensive castle. It was super cool. Absolutely no safety regulations though - it would have been super easy to fall to your death on numerous occasions.

There was a hole in the ceiling and Andrew crawled in - he said it was a pretty giant room

Then we got on the bus and continued on to León. When we got here we moved into the hotel and then we were turned loose. Stefan, Preston, Jamie, Tanner, and I all made up a group. We hit the city and the first thing we came across was a pretty cool castle looking structure. It was someone's house back in the day, and we're not sure why it's important but it was really pretty.

The castle even had a cute little door, just my size!

After finding the cute little castle we came across a gorgeous basilica that is still being used. It's actually used by los peregrinos during their pilgrimage. We went inside and sat down right before they started mass, so we all stayed and enjoyed. Stefan and I actually ended up taking communion - no worries, no wine was involved. It was a little crackery papery thing that you put on the roof of your mouth. It was interesting.

After the church we walked around a bit and we saw one of the most beautiful cathedrals in all of Europe. Tomorrow morning we're going inside, we're super excited. We came right as it was getting dark so we saw it all lit up. From some angles, it almost looks like the SLC Temple. Super pretty.

We also stopped into a convenience store and I found KINDER EGGS!! WOOO!!!
