Euskaraz Badakizu?

Our last couple stops for this our first excursion were into Basque Country! They have their own language, culture, and feelings about being a part of Spain - basically they want to be their own nation. If you're wondering about the weird title for this post, it's in Basque. It looks nothing like Spanish or any other language on Earth - seriously. We learned that the Basque language is stand alone. It has no close neighbor languages or anything that it stems from, and no one is quite sure where it even came from. It's hard though.

Our first stop in Basque Country was a little city called Bilbao. Home of the Gugenheim Museum. If I'm being honest, the building itself was way cooler than the art inside. Super legit looking building, and there was a huge spider construction outside. Unfortunatley, the giant puppy of flowers was under reconstruction so we couldn't see it :( There were quite a few street performers around the museum - McKay got pretty into it! We were secretly throwing money for him, not the musician - but McKay gave it to the guy anyways. Probably a good call.

Basque, Spanish, English

After the museum we went to this restaurant. Don't remember where it was or what it was called, but it was pretty good. We ate some typical Basque food. The ice cream at the end was my favorite part.

Our next stop on the way to San Sebastián was Guernica. This is the city that got bombed during the Spanish Civil War that Picasso painted his famous painting about that we had seen in the Reina Sofia the week earlier. It was cool to go see the town. There's still one tree left that survived the bombing, El Árbol de la Paz. The original tree is still there, but the took seedlings from it and planted a new one too. That's also there, in the garden of the old justice building there. We also went through El Museo de la Paz. Not super exciting, but it was cool.

There's a spider web in the top right corner that we were trying to get an artsy picture of.. didn't quite go as planned lol

After those stops we went on to Donastia(Basque) San Sebastián!(Spanish) Our hotel was awesome. It was at the top of this mountain so we had a sweet view, and the yard was huge and had this fun little playground type thing. It was sweet.

It was a busy busy day full of travel and adventure. We spent the night in San Sebastián and then had the next day to do whatever... beach day.
