So we got to go inside the BEAUTIFUL cathedral in León yesterday. It was awesome. We had these little audio guides so we were feeling pretty legit walking around the cathedral getting a lesson on the beauty and history and architecture of the building. It was awesome.
The door
The audio guide had something interesting about the windows I thought. On this side, the east side, is where the sun hits first. This window has Mary and Christ's lineage on it because that's where the "light" first entered the world. Then as the sun moves across the sky, it hits one of the sides of the cathedral with pictures of the saints and New Testament prophets who continued the light of Christ through time. Then on the western window where the light hits last has depictions of the 2nd coming and of Christ and His angles. On the side that the light never directly hits there are depictions of Old Testament prophets who were around before the "light" had entered the world.
Everything in there was a work of art - even the floor!
This is where the monks stand and sing - when they get tired they can lean back on these little seat things. A lot of them have funny things on them like the one featured here - a goblin face haha.
Check out these flying buttress'
Ave Maria
It truly was beautiful in there. It's definitely not the temple, but there's something peaceful and tranquilo about these old cathedrals that still makes it super easy to feel the Spirit and feel closer to heaven. It's awesome.
